Another template just for you

Wow, I was so surprised how many comments I had for my template last week. Thanks so much everyone!! I thought I’d send out another flexible multi-photo layout this week and see if it is liked just as much. I attempted making my own stitches as well as the buttons. They are kind of ghetto so feel free to delete them and use your own. They are only for giving you an idea for embellishing. For this weeks template download here. (Sorry, this one is retired)

Towel Terror

You guys are totally going to roll your eyes at me…

When Jer and I got married I had no idea about decorating a home. I foolishly registered for navy blue towels for my wedding because I didn’t know what else to pick. I didn’t know what my future home would look like. So why Navy blue? I don’t know– but I decided the other day that I had lived with those blue faded, non matching towels long enough.

I didn’t know how Jer would feel about buying new towels because, obviously, the navy blue towels dry off our bodies just fine. I thought that I would present the idea of getting rid of our ugly towels by using the fact that we needed to fancy up our downstairs/guest bathroom for our many guests. This would make it so much more comfortable, yes?

So he amazingly agreed. What then followed was not so lovely…

(I do have pictures of our towels but have yet to find my USB cord. Sorry! You’ll have to imagine what they look like hanging on the towel racks.)

Trip 1- I head to Target with the kiddos in tow. After spending a great deal of time in the towel isle I came home with tan towels (not pictured but the color of the light tan stripe,) a stripped hand towel and a toilet seat cover for the basement bathroom, as well as lovely dark green towels for the master bathroom and a green matching rug. (Yes, I know the master bathroom was not discussed but don’t you think it should look nice too?)

Result from trip 1- The tan towels were not received well. They were too similar in color to the wall. All involved agreed that they needed to be returned for a different, maybe, darker color. The green towels were received moderately well; the matching green run was not liked by the male spouse.

Trip 2- I return the tan towels and seat cover to Target, keeping the disliked green rug in the master. I purchase a darker shade of tan, kind of like a taupe color for our very neutral basement bathroom.

Result from trip 2- The taupe towels are okay but still kinda of blah. The striped hand towel purchased in trip one appears too casual. We decided that a colored towel might be better and add some interest to the room. I involved the husband by looking at towels on line. I have my sister come over to share her opinion. It is decided that the furry green rug in the master must go back as well as the taupe towels.

Trip 3- I return the taupe towels, the striped hand towel, and green rug to Target. I purchase a soft but modern sea green color of towel for the basement along with a fluffy seat cover, different striped hand towel and a candle to match and draw attention to the counter. I also bring home a grey rug for the master bath. I feel quite happy and resolved that my work is done.

Result from trip 3- The grey rug is still wrong- too fluffy and not the right color. Husband strongly disapproves of the lovely, soft but modern sea green color because it reminds him too much of his grandmothers house, especially the seat cover.

Trip 4- I insist that my spouse accompany me to Target. We return the previously purchased items and then spend an hour in Linens and Things as well as an additional hour in Target. Jer picks out chocolate brown towels and rug for the basement bathroom and I pick out a spa-like mat for the master bathroom.

Result from trip 4- The green rug in the master looks decent enough. I don’t like the way it can slide around and seems kind of small. The chocolate towels and rug look OK. I didn’t get a seat cover like I wanted because Jer thinks they are too old fashioned and I guess I agree (although I don’t like the way Emma slams the lid up and down.) I didn’t buy a brown candle but will be returning soon for one.

What I have learned from this way too long experience-

a- my spouse has a strong opinion about how I decorate the bathrooms.

b- the shower curtain should be the main source/inspiration for picking coordinating colors. If it is only white and tan… pick white!

c-Target will never know how many towels you have returned to them in a 4 day span, although you may feel guilty, standing in the towel isle yet again, when you see the workers putting your towels back for the 4th time.

d- any towel is an improvement over navy blue.

e- while spending an hour in the towel isle, buy your anxious children a slurpee to keep them happy.

Holiday Pooper

Ugg, I feel like I have a million things to blog about but I can’t find my USB cord. Most my stories are pointless unless I can show pictures. For example, my new haircut or the newly purchased towels that took 3 trips to Target to decide on… Sheesh. I guess that’ll have to wait.

I’ve decided that I’m a Holiday Pooper, in fact, I think it’s confirmed. I usually do the bare minimum when it comes to holiday; buy the treats and presents and maybe throw up a few decorations and call it good. When it came to Easter this year it was exactly that- THE BARE MINIMUM. I barely rolled out of bed on time to watch the kids hunt for the 6 plastic eggs Jeremy had scattered around the basement. I didn’t even bother getting Isaac a basket and totally avoided the plastic grass. Woo hoo. The beautiful things is… Emma was so happy with the handful of jelly beans and dollar junk I’d bought at target. The other wonderful thing about no decorations is that I have nothing to take down or clean up. Simplify. Yup, that’s what I’m doing- simplifying.

No egg dying at my house this year. Decorating cookies at my sisters house was enough. Check out this picture of Emma and one of Isaac that my sis took. She had this super cool neon dye for the frosting.

I’ve read so many posts about everyones Easter. I do have pictures and I might actually share them if I could find my USB cord. I’m sure Isaac has carried if off somewhere to plug it into an electrical outlet.

Anyhoo, am I sounding grouchy? I feel grouchy. My back is aching and I haven’t been sleeping so well. Time to get off the computer. Ciao.

Warming Up

Yea, we are loving this warmer weather! The kids spent most the day in the back yard and that allowed me to do some house cleaning. With the kids outside, I didn’t have to go from one mess to the other. I must have a little spring cleaning itch. I’ve started to organize all my cluttery cracks and crannies so maybe by the time the summer is over I’ll have a organized home. You’re thinking “Dream on!” right?

Here is my Monday template… even though the day is almost over. It’s 11:48 pm. I can hardly keep my eyes open. Download here.

Over the weekend we went up to Ogden and found a delightful little place for climbing. There was even a nice grassy null for the kids to hang out on while we were hanging out on the rocks. We took my sister and brother in law and had a great time. I’d forgotten my camera in the car but sis in law was able to snap these photos so I thought they’d work great for this template.

Bushed

I have made it home from Idaho. For some reason the trip has complete worn me out. I have been loving sleeping in my bed ever since (you know how it is after a vacation…) Unfortunatly, my night time sleeping hasn’t been that great. Emma has been waking up in the night feeling yucky or hot and then she wakes up early on top of that.  When I finally realize the night is over and it’s time to get up, I crawl out of bed feeling like I’ve been gilted out of a good night sleep. Hopefully this week I’ll catch up.

Jeremy is going on a buisness trip in two weeks to Southern California and we are all going to go! Woo hoo! I have a question for you all…

Do you have any tips, must sees, or fun secrets for Disneyland, LA and San Diego areas? I am kind of nervous and already feeling tired about it all. I’m going to be on my own for a couple days while Jer is working. I would like to know what are good activities for a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy?  What can I do that wont be totally overwhelming? I went to Disneyland when I was ten and don’t remember a thing about it except spinning in the tea cups. Any recomendations would be awesome!!

On a side note; if you downloaded template #6 earlier, some people had technical difficulties so I’ve fixed the link.

Bonus Friday

Hello ya’ll. I’m coming to you from the wonderful barren state of Idaho. I’ve been on a little road trip to visit my sister. Woo hoo. She’s been helping me rearrange my site a little bit so I thought I’d run a test post.

I will soon have an equal opportunity blog roll. This means that if you want to be on my blog roll, just email me and I’ll put you on. The blog roll at the bottom will randomly rotate through my list.

I’m going to give you a bonus template today just because I’ve had a little time to mess around this morning on her great big wonderful coveted iMac. Hope you enjoy. Download here. (Sorry, this one is retired)

Making a Splash -The High School Years -Life History #5

I’ve been putting off writing about the high school years, if you couldn’t tell. High school was pretty good but is a bit overwhelming to write about. I want to write it for me but also make it internet worthy. Here’s a little peak into my high school years.soph

I made better choices in high school than I did in Jr High. I stopped sneaking around, I became friends with my parents and even made better choices as far as the boys are concerned. I think my sophomore year was for the most part spent single until the end.

In the spring of Sophomore year, a kind and caring senior boy scooped me up and took care of me. I met him running track. He showed me how dating should happen (he waited until I turned 16 to ask me out.) We had fun. He cared about who I was, where I was going, and took notice of things I liked to do. I stuck with him through my Jr year even though he’d graduated. I wrote to him while he went on his LDS mission. A lot of my friends and family wondered why I stuck with this guy. We weren’t very much alike, perhaps opposites, but ya know what- he was nice. He was good for me. Looking back, I don’t regret dating him. He’s a sensitive guy, so out of respect I’m posting no pictures nor telling any stories. Sorry.

dance

There is something you need to know about Utah schools and Mormons -there are tons of dances and everyone goes. When dating someone seriously you are allowed -pretty much expected- to date others; particularly when going to dances. We never went with the same boy twice. I can not tell you how many dances we had. Tons! I have two huge scrapbooks filled with dance pictures. Life seemed to revolve around dances. We probably always had our hearts set on certain boys asking us but if someone else asked us we’d always say yes. That was another unwritten rule. You always say yes to whoever asked you first. If you experienced these Utah dances then you know what I’m talking about. Down right fun.

Asking someone to a dance was a whole affair in and of itself. It involves dropping some weird thing at the door and running for it. (ie, drop off a plant with a diaper wrapped around it and green peas inside. “I would Pea my Plants if you’d go with me to the dance.”) Your name or answer would then be hidden inside and have to be decoded.

sara

High school was so fun. I really hate saying that because I think a lot of people have horrible experiences but I really only have fond memories. My circle of friends doubled or tripled. I even developed some best friends. My cousin, Sara, transferred to my school and as scared as I was to let her into my world, it turned out great.

pike

diving

Diving really took off for me. I loved it. I dreamed of it. Chlorine was my new perfume. I think it was a great place for me to spend my time and get my energy out. It was something I was pretty good at and could feel proud about. I progressed fast at first but finally hit a point where I just couldn’t do much more. After that, it took a lot of hard work to advance into harder difficulty levels. The challenge was still exciting and I remember coming home bruised from slapping (ie. belly flopping) so many times.

state

By my senior year I was finally ranked in the top ten of the state. At the state competition I had a chance at the top 6 but over-rotated on my double reverse, placing me at 11th. Bummer, but it was pretty cool to even get that close. I probably could have gone on and dove in college but I decided that I didn’t want to give my life to it. It would have possessed me. 2 Practices a day! No way, that wasn’t for me. I like freedom. It was a fun little sport though and even now it’s fun to go to the public pools, do a few basic dives and get gawked at.

relay

Diving was a fall/winter sport so in the spring I ran track. It wasn’t my passion but it was something for me to do. I sprinted. Purely because I didn’t think I could do long distances. I wasn’t that fast though for a sprinter. I was able to be on the relay teams but could never hold my own in a race by myself. My relay teams made it to state a few times. I was never the last leg though. Always the first or second but I didn’t care. It was fun enough.

Taiwan

whitie

My sophomore year my track coach asked me if I wanted to represent our school/city and go to Taiwan to run in an international track meet there. They needed a 15 year old girl and boy. Of course I said yes! It was the most surreal experience. I went all the way around the world at 15 with a bunch of strangers (believe me, my coach was strange.)

We did very little running, mostly sight seeing and eating. When it came to running the race, it was very intimidating. There were tons of people and cameras in my face. It was like I was a celebrity. But really it was because I was the only one with “blonde” hair.

I totally lost my race. Dead last. I wanted to die. I flew all the way around the world to come in last. Arggg… get me out of here!! Ya, that was humiliating but the country was cool… and I can always say I went to Taiwan when I was 15 to run in their international track meet. Doesn’t that sound cool!

senior

My senior year was the best. It was so super fun. I was dating a new super fun boy and had a awesome group of friends. Dreams were coming true that I hadn’t even dreamed of. Life wasn’t perfect but now that I’m writting this I’m surprised by how well it was going for little ole me. I was able to sing in the elite choir (who knew I could even sing), nominated for royalty a few times, and on the seminary council. Wowzers! What a year. (I’m trying not to brag, really!)

When it came to applying to colleges, I was kind of clueless. Maybe I was a head-full-of-fluff kind of girl. I had no idea where I wanted to go or what I could possibly do with myself. My dad said you can go to either BYU or Ricks. So I picked Ricks, the furthest one away. It was a sad day when I found out that I was not accepted. My friends had been accepted and that made it worse. I had good grades but had done poorly on my ACT’s (a lot of good taking choir, photography and swim classes did me!) Luckily I found a way to weasel myself in. If I did a summer semester at Ricks and did well, I’d be able to attend the fall semester…

So… this story will continue when I get around to writing the exciting, dramatic college years. Be excited -very excited. (ha, sense the sarcasm)

Happy St Patrick’s Day

Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone. I’ve never really been very conscious of this Irish holiday until this year. I’m totally sporting a luscious lucky green color today. I usually forget to put on the green… I finally have a school age child that wants to wear green so she doesn’t get pinched.

So it’s Monday and here is my template. Hope you all enjoy. Happy scrapping. Download here. (Sorry, this one is retired.)

12-lots-o-squares

Oops. I almost forgot. Here is the page I made with this template. Be creative with the squares. I love to use as many photos as I can. For a second page you could delete the main photo and move thing around or rotate the whole layout. Endless possibilities.

The Hair Drama Continues

I came home the other night to this…

03-14-2008 027

There was hair ALL over my bathroom. Jer was attempting to cut Isaac’s hair but was having difficulties because of his wiggly nature. *note the crooked bangs! He was using the scissors instead of the buzzer. I asked why and he said Isaac would scream in terror when he turned them on. Needless to say I had to take over.

I’m still waffling back and forth about my hair. Last night Jer and I were watching some movie with Halley Barry in it and he said if I go short I should do it like hers. What do you think? It’s short and her hair is curly but I don’t know if mine is quite as tightly curled. I think he was influenced by her hotness… thinking that I would hot too. Hummm. I’m not so sure I can compare to Halley.

Som’ thin’ in the air

I am seriously considering taking a nap right now. Yawn.

(just typing that word made me yawn)

The kids haven’t been sleeping so well this week. Especially Emma. It must be something in the air. She’s been waking up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. Luckily no night terrors but she’ll have the craziest ideas in her head that she wants to do right then – read books or get a particular toy. Argg. Go back to sleep my dear!

*** *** ***

We’ve been able to do a few fun things this week so I’ll share a few photos.

We went to the farm. This is all Isaac wanted to do… vrooomm vrooomm. *note- the monkey backpack was a success.

03-14-2008 005

Went on a spur of the moment mommy/daughter date to Disney on Ice Princess Wishes. A dream come true for the little one – cotton candy and all. She screamed the loudest for Sleeping Beauty!

03-14-2008 016

And a get together with Jer’s growing up guy friends. They spent the night reminiscing about car crashes and taking some old junky mini van around a corner at 110 mph. (ummm, good thing they grow up!)
