Slippery Fish

August 22nd, 2008 · 10 Comments

Isaac still isn’t talking too well. He certainly tries but the consonants just don’t come out right. I’m trying to not worry and give him time to develop on his own but there may be a time where I’ll have to do something about it. Is early intervention easier than waiting?

Here is Isaac singing a song that Emma learned at Preschool. It’s one of our favorites. It goes like this.

Slippery fish, slippery fish, sliding through the water.
Slippery fish, slippery fish, gung gung gung (the sound of gulping)
Oh no, it’s been eaten by a…

Octopus, octopus, squiggling through the water.
Octopus, octopus, gung, gung, gung.
Oh no, it’s been eaten by a…

Tuna fish, tuna fish, flashing through the water…

Great white shark, great white shark, lurking through the water…

Humongous whale, humongous whale, swimming through the water.
Humongous whale, humongous whale. BURP. Pardon Me!

Isaac obviously has only certain parts of the song down (the burbing part). As parents we really get a kick out of listening to him but the video kind of shows how he’s doing with language. Thought I’d share. Enjoy.

He’s such a cutie! I loved the “oh no!” parts & him putting his hands to his cheeks.

He chats up storm - maybe a little speech therapy would help us understand him better-he knows exactly what he means. Check with your pedatrician.

To remember all the words to that song is quite amazing for his age. Love you

    So dang cute!

Having been to speech therapy with Mason, my feeling is it never hurts to at least get an evaluation. If he doesn’t need anything, they’ll let you know. If he does, it can only help. If you go to a pediatric therapist, they will make it seem like play time. Mason typically enjoyed these sessions especially while he was younger. Early intervention is great. As their brains are developing, they are making connections. Speech therapy (if recommended) would just help make some new connections. You’d be amazed what they can do and even some ideas they can give you of things you can work on at home. That’s my 2 cents for what it’s worth. That said, you’re the Mom, so whatever you feel is best, probably is.

Hi, I just found your site on Digifree. As a mom of three (one who started speech therapy at 2) If you think there is a speech delay, there probably is. No one knows your child better than you. Most communities provide speech therapy for free through the school system or other early intervention program. I think you should do it early so that the problem can be dealt with before he gets further behind. My daughter is 9 and still doesn’t pronounce r’s or an blend with an R. (it comes out W). He is truly adorable though! Good luck!
