Things that never end

Emma in the back of the car: 1, 2, 3, 4… 128, 129. Mom, guess what, I just counted to 129!!

Me for the one hundred and twenty ninth time: Good job, Hunny.

Emma curiously: How high to numbers go?

Me half paying attention: They never end. They just keep going.

Emma with words flying over her head: Huh??

Me a little bit stumped: Uhh, think of it like this… remember when we went to the beach and there was all that sand?

Emma: Ya.

Me struggling: If you look really closely to that sand you would see all the tiny grains of sand that make up the beach. Well, do you think you could count all those itty bitty grains of sand?

Emma with enthusiasm: No.

Me continuing: Well, numbers just keep on going and going, just like it would be if you tried to count all that sand (even though there actually is an end to the sand.) There is so much of it that our little brains can’t really count that high. There is no end to numbers.

Emma with a high pitched girly voice: Oh! It’s like love!

Me tenderized: Ohhhh! Ya, like love.

Emma adds sweetly: Like the love for my family.
