Planning Spring Break

Jer and I have been busy planning a trip to San Diego with the kids. We are pretty excited. The kids are jumping off the walls with excitement. Emma has been making up songs about California and Isaac asks me every time he gets into trouble if he can still go to Lego Land with us. As if we’d leave him home!

We are looking forward to some fun times but are completely dreading the 11 hour drive there and back! Yikes!

We did Sea World and Disneyland a couple years ago and wont be doing those again. We are planning on the San Diego Zoo and most likely Lego Land. I have heard mixed reviews about Lego Land though and we are wondering if anyone else knows much about the place. Good or bad experiences?

I’m also wondering if any of you, dear readers, are familiar with the area or have vacationed there? Do you have any favorite places to see or stay? Any traveling tips? Must dos? Tide pools, favorite beaches? Local secrets?

We have been searching the internet and talking to friend but any information is helpful.

My kids LOVED LegoLand. Maybe even more than Disney. It was SO fun – tons of rides, a little water play area, a huge tree fort…. They were begging us to go back there. Any future trip we make to California will have to include a stop at LegoLand.

Oh, when we went we had 4 girls ages 7 – 2.

I would recommend the Wild Animal Park over the Zoo…Also if you have time take the kids to San Juan Capistrano Mission and if you walk down just a bit further you can see great beaches…La Jolla is beautiful this time of year. I live in Orange County and we go somewhere every weekend…La Jolla last weekend was great, you can go into underwater caves depending on the tides…If you have Triple A I would get there Southern California book…

All I know is that Vegas is between you and San Diego and we’d love to see you guys if you need a place to crash for a night to break up the drive, or even just need a potty stop for a while. I’m totally serious. Let me know if you’re interested.

I live in San Diego! I have never been to LegoLand (I don’t have kids) but I’ve heard it’s a lot of fun, especially with younger children. Also, I love both the zoo and the Wild Animal Park, and agree with Larissa’s recommendation there.
I’d be happy to e-mail you with more info if you’d like, I have a couple favorites that might not make the guidebook. :)

I’ve been to LegoLand twice, I loved it. The first time I went with a six year old, the second time with a 2 year old & an 11 year old. It was really fun, just different with the ages both times. Your kids are pretty little for Sea World to be worth the price. Missions aren’t as fun for kids until they are older to in my experience. If you are in Orange County there is a great museum http://www.discoverycube.org/
that’s very hands on. The SD zoo is a great day though too.

We did the Zoo and the Wild Animal park several years ago and I would HIGHLY recommend the Wild Animal Park over the zoo 1000 times over. The zoo is sssoooo crowded. But either place I would be there 1st thing in the morning because that is when the animals will be most active and fun too see. We also did a thing at the Wild Animal Park where we got in early and got to see several animals up close and even feed the giraffes. Not sure what that cost but it was worth every penny.

Enjoy your trip I LOVED San Diego.

We go to beaches in the San Juan Capistrano/ San Clemente area- I think they’re less touristy. And you can always ride the train from that area to San Diego to the zoo. Sounds FUN!
