Just for fun -Spring Tulips Project

I never do much by way of decorations for holidays or seasons (excluding Christmas.) My excuse has always been that it takes too much energy to swap things out or that I don’t have room for all that stuff. But for some reason I was wanting something springy in the house this year.

I came up with this idea of using a berry basket I bought at an antique shop in Idaho a long time ago and filled it with up with paper tulips. I’m not much of a hybrider but these were super easy and I whipped them up in no time.

And of course I thought I’d share. Download here if you’re interested.

The template is very simple (anyone could make these) and so is the project. Here is the jist of it.

1. Cover the template tulips and leaves with digi paper. I used Shabby Princess Promise Collection and used the burn tool to make them a bit brighter in color. Print out onto 8.5×11 white card stock.

2 Cut out. My tulips and leaves are 2 sided so I clued the backsides together and sanded the edges so they’d match up good and look uniform. My template will make 6 tulips even though I only ended up using 5.

3. Glue on to sticks. Here the leaves were a little bit tricky but the flowers just need to be stuck on. I just awkwardly glued the leaves on (shown in the picture) but had ideas about using green curly wire or something like that. I used some kabob sticks that have been hiding in my cupboards for years. I debated about painting the sticks green but just didn’t want to deal with that extra step, again… extra step. I like to keep it simple.

4. Place flowers in existing plant or some sort of pot/bucket with florist foam and moss. (I got my supplies at the craft store.)

Ta da. You’re finished.

After I created these, I saw this tutorial on growing your own wheat grass. What a cute idea! I know my kids would love watching the grass grow and I think a couple of tulips popping out of the grass would be perfect.
