Have fun scrapping.

What to do when you have chickenpox

To avoid getting too much cabin fever around the house, the kids and I have been taking drives up the mountain. For the past few weeks there has been a cool fall-ish feel in the air. Fall is officially here as of yesterday but the mountains are already showing it. I love watching the seasons change.

If I’ve counted right we’ve driven up a canyon 4 times in less than a week. I have found it to be the perfect outing when you have a sick kiddo who can not be around anyone else but feels perfectly fine to play. Plus the weather has been to die for.

Who can stay indoors? Not us.

09.23.10 026

We are always on the lookout for a quiet, secluded spot on the river to relax and throw rocks;

or a fun place to sit and admire the view.

09.23.10 018

But best of all, just being together. This isn’t the most flattering shot but gotta love the backwards neck hug from my boy.

FYI- It’s been a week and all of Isaac’s poxs have officially scabbed over. Yea!

Does anyone else have the problem of their point and shoot not focusing?! Aren’t those lovely pine trees in the background though?

Our decision has brought us…

Here is my handsome boy. I admit that I am quite partial to him. Check out his smile.

Take a close look at his belly. Guess what he is covered with…

Chickenpox! Can you believe it?

But of course, he has hardly noticed. He’s busy flexing gigantic muscles.

I don’t know where he picked it up and haven’t even heard of anyone getting them in years. Well… of course I knew my kids eventually could get them, with no vaccines and all… but it’s hard to realize that it really has happened.

9.19.10 010

I made the choice not to vaccinate Isaac about 5 years ago and super glad that I did. But I’ll be the first to admit that it hasn’t exactly been the easiest choice. Especially with all of the scrutinizing I’ve gotten. It’s a little embarrassing for some reason but I’m going to stand by my choice. I’m happy that it has happened now. It’s been good timing with the fall coming and everyone is still pretty little. My kids will have life long immunity without all those additives floating around their little developing bodies.

I’m now living with my decision. I was tempted to rush out and get Emma her shots so I wouldn’t have to pull her out of school when she got them. I guess once you’ve been exposed you have something like three days to get the vaccine and there’s a 90% chance it’ll work. But how in the sam are we suppose to know when she was exposed. I’d hate to get the shot and then have her still get them. I decided that getting a shot was “the easy fix” but maybe not the best fix. After a lot of debating, pondering and praying I decided that it was better not to rush into it.

There is a lot that goes into our decision but I just don’t have the energy to put it all down here. It’s a better choice for our family but it has been a hard choice. I will admit it.  It will be interesting to see how the month turns out. We could be hibernating for quite some time depending on when the girls come down with the pox. Fun, fun, fun.

Busyness

Oodles of time has passed by since my last post. I have no idea how a week and half can slip by so fast. Life has been… well, crazy. There’s been school and homework, girls night outs and volleyball, church meets and activities, you know all that life stuff we have to do.

Another reason for all this busyness is this darling girl of mine.

8.23.10 009

She’s always on the go. She loves being with people. If she isn’t toddling after me she’ll pick any other sibling to torture and follow. At the park today she practically attacked another little girl with too much love and Hi’s and I want to push your toy around. The other little girl was NOT happy with the attention and I had to leave early because of all the tears.

8.23.10 017

My go-to hair-do for her is the pixie pony right on top of her head. It keeps the growing hair out of her eyes and is fast and easy. But why in the heck have I waited so long to try pigtails? Darling, eh? Deserved a photo shoot on the front step.

She is such a delight but a busy one. She wont leave my drawers alone. She loves to find bracelets and pretty things. Pulls out everything… you see, I have an, umm, lets say… romantic drawer… ya know, the one you keep in your room with all of your silky things and “other equipment.” I sure she loves the silky nighties but those square packages sure are interesting too.

Well, one day she pulled out all of the contents in the drawer and I didn’t have any time to clean it up. I ran out the door leaving the babysitter in charge. I came home to my room and when Emma told me the baby sitter had been in their looking for their toothbrushes I realized she must have seen everything!! Ahhh, I hope I didn’t traumatized the poor girl.

On to more family friendly topics… She’s got almost all of her animal sounds down. I ask her what a cow says almost every hour because I just love to hear her say MOOO with those little lips. I think she prefers tigers, dinosaurs and bear noises best.

Her Grrr is just to die for, I tell you.

Preschool arrives

My little guy was so excited to attend preschool that he slept with his backpack last night.

He’s been waiting for two long weeks for preschool to start. I just hope he continues to like it as much as he did today. I worry about how he’ll do with schooling. He seems like a very bright kid but I’m not sure how good his focus is. I worry about his speech and I worry about his eyes. He squints that right eye a lot more than I’d like him to. He also appears to be ambidextrous but is never interested is wielding a pencil or crayon.

And hopefully his teacher likes him as much as I do -because I adore him.

He’s such a boy, isn’t he?

Labor day weekend

I hope you all had a perfect Labor Day weekend. Despite my itching to take a road trip , we didn’t end up go anywhere. I was a wee bit bummed and couldn’t help but fume a tad while I did some much needed house cleaning. I certainly wasn’t taking a break from my labors. Sheesh!

Luckily my hubby came through with making plans for a couple little day trips to keep everyone sane and happy (after all the house cleaning was done.)

We did a little bit of this…

and this…

and this…

It ended up being a perfectly full weekend. I’m even sore enough from wake-boarding and hiking that I’m content at just hanging out at home today. Amazing, huh?

Well, at least my mom is amazed.

How much scrapbooking can you handle?

I have another template for you so if you aren’t getting your pages done then it isn’t my fault. Hah!

Here is #63. It’s pretty basic and should be great for scrapbooking any memory. Again, it is very similar to my latest templates. I must be liking this style. Simple and easy, I guess.

Download here.

Here are my pages. I used Shabby Princess’ Promise Collection. Fitting for wedding photos, yes? Actually I thought the colors were great for the photos I was using.

Thumbs up for blanket forts

Emma has been in school for a week and a half now while Isaac’s preschool doesn’t start until after labor day. I never would have guessed that I’d be wishing for preschool to start so badly. Isaac has been bored and lonely to the point of driving me crazy. I have done my best to plan activities or have something to keep us busy every morning but my efforts don’t seem to keep him satisfied.

The moment we get home to put Leah down for a nap I hear, “Mama, Who can I pway wiff?” I reply with “Sorry bud, everyone is at school.” They I get a great big frowny face and some whining.

“But mommmmm!”

It really isn’t fun for either of us.

To stave off some of the whining today I helped the little guy build a “todally awesome fort” to keep him occupied for a while.

9.1.10 010

After we had it fixed up just right, it did the job for an hour or so as long as he had his trusty flashlight with him. He specifically wanted no holes in the fort so that it would be as dark as possible inside.

For an hour of peace I give two thumbs up for blanket forts.
