Hello, hello snow

Yesterday it snowed in the mountains. We could see the distinct white line halfway down the towering hills behind our house but we only had rain at our house.

Isaac was so excited he said, “Now we can go skiing!”

I told him we had to wait until there was a lot more snow. ” We have to wait until there is this much snow at our house,” holding out my hands about a foot apart to show how deep it needed to be.

So this morning we woke up to this.

So again, I heard, “Yea, now we can go skiing.”

So my words had come to fruition but how to explain that the ski resorts need to have enough accumulation at the base until they opened? I told him that we needed to wait until there was even more up in the mountains or else we’d have too many rocks and sticks in our way.

“But I can just ski around them,” was his reply.

I was trying to get Leah to sing for you all. She didn’t want to cooperate. Her giggle alone is cute enough to share though.

We did manage to capture the Hello Song. I’ve been wanting to record this for a couple weeks now, for posterity. I think it’s technically called The Welcome Song. It’s Leah’s favorite. Please ignore my singing and my barking dog.

A Get Away

…just for the morning.

The day after I hurt my finger I had one of the worst day’s I’d had in a long time. I was boo-hooing at everything that came my way. I was unable to cope with much. Do you know that feeling? Do you ever have those kinds of day?

The gauze I had wrapped my finger in became dried/glued on to my wound with platelets. I had no idea how to get it off and it hurt like… the dickens, I tell you! I tried cutting, pulling and soaking. I was super frustrated and upset about it all. Mad at my self, I guess, for letting it happen. After hours of soaking it I finally managed to pull it off.

The next day I wanted to escape a bit. I headed up one of my favorite canyons to discover this…

Fall Break

We’ve just had a lovely fall break.

It was a bit of a headache to plan what we were going to do. You see, my husband and I are perfectly matched because we both want to have lots of fun and try to do everything in one short little trip. We over-book, cram tons of stuff in and change plans 100 times. My poor mom and sister happened to be the victims of  our ever changing plans this time. But in the end, we decided to visit my sister and her family in Idaho and we’re so glad we did because we had a great time and, believe it or not, great weather.

We did a bunch of fall activities; got lost in a straw maze, went apple picking, and visited a pumpkin patch. I only had my camera on the pumpkin patch adventure, so for the other events, imagine daring photos of cousins holding hands walking through tall hallways of hay bales and heavy laden wagons full of 18 months olds and fresh hand picked apples.

We also took out my brother in law’s motorcycles and ATV to a local canyon and had a blast exploring the fall mountains. I think this was Isaac’s favorite part.

This photo was taken by an obliging tree. I think it needs to learn how to properly hold a camera but I was grateful to capture the moment. We followed trails around the mountain to make one big 10 mile loop. You can see one of the trails coming out of the forest behind us. So much fun.

Jeremy and I also managed to squeeze in a mountain biking ride on the last day of our fall break. We had a perfect time and completely enjoyed all the fall colors and leaf scattered trails. Of course I forgot my camera!

When we returned home, we were putting our bikes away and talking about our great ride. I had my bike flipped over, putting the wheel back on when I caught my finger in the spinning wheel. Instant pain, I tell you. At first I thought it was a basic smashed-in-the-door kind of experience but when I looked down I saw that my finger nail had been completely ripped off.

Close your eyes if you do not stomach blood well. I was surprised Jeremy didn’t get faint on me but it was kind of funny how he wasn’t quite sure how to help either. He offered to get a band-aid about ten times.

A perfect picture for the Halloween season, yes? I’m sure my mom is sucking air through her teeth like she does when she sees a bad ouchy and saying that it makes her knees hurt.

It’s okay, Mom. It feels better today.

Pretty gross, eh? Root and all! I’m wondering if it will grow back.

So now you may guess how difficult it has been to type this post. I have had to use the backspace on every sentence so please overlook any typos. I’m very glad that I am done.

An Unwelcomed Change

My life is over as I know it.

As the light of dawn threatened to touch the early morn, long before the creeping sun dare crest the great mountains to the east of my window, I was awakened by a faint sound. It was the sound of metal. A sound that I immediately recognized.  A sound I did not want to hear at that unearthly hour. It was a gentle touch but none the less, undesirable.

The sound was consistent. I doubted that there was any chance the sound would stop. I knew the body that was making the sound would not, at any time, stop and fall to the ground unconsciously in sleep as I found myself wishing it would.

The sound was that of tiny 18 month old fingers, reaching up to a door knob. It was the 18 month olds very own door knob. And that meant only one thing.

The touch of the door now was joined with some non-rhythmic beating. Not the sound of a usual knock but of a wee child demanding freedom and extraction from its sleeping chamber. As the racket built in loudness there was soon sounds of a muffled yelling. “Mawwww-mmmah!”

The time passed for ignoring the sound. I then heard sounds of someone rising from their bed, opening the captive’s door, which brought sounds of  joy and laughter at the liberation. Small feet ran to me. The small fingers clamored onto me as they scaled the bedside.

Leah can now climb out of her crib.

Computer Loathing

I have been feeling a super duper hatred towards my computer lately. It hasn’t done anything awful, hasn’t offended me, hasn’t stopped working. Nothing like that…. I just am hating sitting here spending time staring at this glaring screen with my wrist aching, my shoulders pinching and my bum flattening.

Does the clock tick faster when I’m on the computer?

Does the house fall apart quicker while I sit here?

It’s a stage. It will pass. I’ve been here before. I will soon fall back in love…

Maybe next week.

But for now I’d much rather curl up with Jane Eyre, a throw quilt made with love by my momma, and box of donuts (any box will do).

October desktop template

Hey, look what I made.

October-desktop-preview

A desktop template that you can customize just the way you want it. I haven’t ever done a desktop background before because there are so many cute free ones around digi land for the taking. S0 why do the extra work? I must be feeling ambitious.

Here is what I did with mine.

October desktop

Grab it by clicking here and then let me know what you think by leaving a comment.

Tip- To cover the white calendar with paper I did the usual Ctrl-G thing but because the number are actually on the white background, I had to change the blending mode to Multiply. You can also try Darken or Linear Burn and it lets the numbers show through.

*edit- I almost forgot, this desktop is 1366 x 768 px. I know that’s a weird size. It’s not the usual size you’ll find desktops come in. It’s the size of my screen and the others never fit just right… so listen… here is what you can do to insure a perfect fit.

1. Take a Print Screen shot of your screen. To do that find the button on your key board that says Print Screen or prt sc. It’s usually located around the top right of your keyboard. Hit that button and then go to your photoshop.

2. Hit Crtl-N to open up a new document. The dimensions of your screen should automatically appear. Click OK.

3. Open up my desktop template and select all the layers in the layers bin and drag them on to the new size. Use the move tool and transform any layers that need to be adjusted. Now you can start decorating for a perfect fit for your desktop.

Let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy.
