Happy (cough) Thanksgiving (sniff)

I’ve been putting off writing about my Thanksgiving weekend because I’m just not sure what to write about it. It was very up and down. There were the great parts -fun with family, yummy food. And some not so great parts -getting sick, obsessing about black friday, and a missing out on major lack of sleep.

And even now that I’m sitting here trying to write about it… I don’t want to. I’ll just say I certainly love Thanksgiving and time with my family.  I certainly have a lot to be grateful for…

Like good health… which I happen to be wishing I had right now. I am currently plagued with a very miserable cough/cold and even with all the vitamins, herbs, and Mucinex that a person can take, I can’t even seem to take the edge off.

(cough)

But just to make this more interesting than telling you about my misery, here are some of the highlights from the past week.

We’ve been having a lot of fluffy white stuff falling around these parts and we were sure to take advantage of it.

That video was taken at the end of the day and Isaac was on his last legs. The little guy must have been super tired because after that video I had a heck of a time getting him to continue down the mountain. It actually took us so long to get down that heaven sent me some wonderful relief for the little boy.

Yes, Isaac and I were the last on the slopes that cold evening at Snowbird and so the ski patrol was kind enough to give Isaac a lift down. He’s sitting in front of the man on the snowmobile and I was following behind on my board. I think it made his day and he’s already talking about going skiing again. I just need to make sure that he understands that getting a ride on a snowmobile is not the norm at the ski resorts.

We also made sure to get some of this in.

(Leah loved sledding, by the way, despite her frozen fingers.)

And we’ve also been helping Daddy do a lot of this…

Even more snow fell last night and Emma’s school was surprisingly canceled. Aren’t snow days every kids dream? It would have been wonderful if I was feeling up entertaining her.

(cough)

Hey, guess what

I’m having a Black Friday sale! Yup. Can’t believe it but I just thought of doing it and so here I am up at 1:10 am Friday morning making it happen.

I’ve been shopping around computer land myself and I had the pleasure of getting a great deal on something I wanted super duper bad… so for all of my dear digi scrappin friends, I give you 40% off my entire store. Just for two days though. So hop on over and grab that template you’ve been eying.

homepage

Let me know if you have any troubles. Happy scrapping.

Ps. I’m working on my 2011 calendars.

Christmas Card Time

I’m starting to see Christmas stuff pop up all over. The radio is already playing Jiggle Bell Rock and stores are advertising black Friday specials and sending out their toy catalogs (in which every toy has been circled with a bright red marker by my two kiddos.)

I’m not sure if I’m ever ready for Christmas before Thanksgiving actually gets here but I am getting a jump on my Christmas cards this year. How about you?

If you are in need of a little boost, I’ve made a bunch of Christmas card templates in 3 sizes for you at my shop.

homepage copy

I’ll admit that I do not like to spend oodles of money on my photocards so I tend to go with the 4×6 size. It’s hard to beat a price of .12 to .15 cents a print. I make sure to always choose a matte finish to avoid fingerprints. In the past, I have mounted my card on card stock. I like the look of the border and it makes it feel less cheep and flimsy. The only other thing you have to consider is an envelope. I have found that it is very difficult to find the right size so make sure you have your envelopes planned out before you commit to a 4×6 size.

Here is my card that I made with the above template pack. Credits are at flickr.

Next I have a 5×7 pack of photocards. I think this size is much nicer and fancier feeling but you’ll pay a bit more. I’ve used Winkflash in the past and if you use their blank photocard option, they’ll send them with envelops. Looks like they are running a sale right now. 25% off their cards and 5×7 are 53¢ so that’s something like .40 cents. Not bad, eh? Shutterfly’s cards are also on sale for .44 cents a card.

I also have 4×8 photocards as well. I think these are fun sizes and are a little cheaper than the 5x7s. At Winkflash they are on sale for around .30 a print and at Shutterfly they are .32 cents. I have used this size to make my mother-in-law Christmas cards. She has 6 kids plus all of their families so we love the 6 photo option.

Lastly, I have made a free 4×6 Christmas card to try out or for those of you who are really stretched in the money department this year. Please delete my little tree and add your own element. He he.  I also haven’t retired last years free Christmas card. Gosh, so many options. What are you going to do?

Download this free 4×6 card here. If you download either free card please leave me a comment.

Now all you have to do is find a darling Christmas scrapbooking kit to help you decorate it. Happy card making. XO

Miserable and grumpy to fresh and thankful

I had the blahs yesterday. I was so blue that I wrote my mom an email that went something like this:

Uggh
I have the blahs tonight.
I haven’t exercised in months.

My canker wont go away.
I have under-grounders like a teenager.
Cleaned the whole house
over the weekend like a mad women and it already looks like a disaster. Having couples book club at my house on Thursday… going to have to clean and scrub everything- AGAIN.
The carpet looks so dingy.
Loosing patients with the kids. Can’t seem to get them in bed on time.
Back hurts. Probably from sitting here so LONG.
Skipping a school meeting tomorrow. Feeling guilty.
Wish I was relaxing and watching HGTV but it’s monday night football.

Sigh.

Don’t you have those sorts of days and all you want to do is tell your mom about it. She sent me back a comforting email full of love and emoticons. How funny. Today I’m doing much better.

In fact, when my friend, Amy picked up Isaac for preschool I asked her what she was going to do today…

“Going hiking with you!” was her reply. How did she know I needed to get out. I guess she needed it too so we dropped off the boys, bundled all up because it was a very blustery day, strapped Leah on, and off we went.

We drove to the closest trail head and headed up. And up. And Up the trail. It was such a steep hike and super windy. My hair was whipping all around. I was huffing and puffing from the steep incline and my legs soon start burning. I kept telling myself I need the exercise and to keep going. Amy is a hiking machine and took Leah on her back for a little bit but then she was huffing and puffing too. Ha. That extra 25 pounds makes a big difference when hiking straight up a mountain.

The wind calmed down at the top and we stopped to look around when we hit a small rock outcrop. It was so pretty up there. The view of the Salt Lake City valley was breathtaking. We climbed high enough to make the houses and cars miniature and to touch the line where the rain from yesterday had fallen as snow. We were far enough away to feel secluded and hadn’t pasted a single soul. Simply wonderful, I tell you.

Nov 16,2010 065

The sun was shinning through the clouds making poka-dotted spots of bright sunshine all over the deep fall colors of the valley. The sun would occasionally hit our faces like a warm blanket as clouds moved on. We were all alone up there on the great big hill. As I stood there looking around my frustrations melted away. I felt such gratitude for the people who love me… my mom, my good friend who feels more like a sister. What a difference yesterday felt like to today.

This life isn’t so miserable. The feelings from yesterday were shaken off and pounded into the dirt of that great mountain. It left me feeling fresh and thankful. I really shouldn’t complain about my pimples and messy house when I have so many wonderful things around me. Such sweet children who make those messes, a husband who takes such good care of us and this beautiful world all for me to enjoy.

On the hike down it started hailing on us a little bit but none of us cared, including Leah. The white mysterious balls of ice just seemed to add magic to the place. There is something present there that is more grand than us and we were only there on a visit.

My Shop

Now that my shop is up and running I’ll show you some new templates that are there, just so you don’t miss them.

I made a great new package to help those of you who are overwhelmed with all the pages you should be getting done. Simple but helpful, yes?

Images are linked.

SuperDuperPack--mandagirl-l

I had acquired some random photos from my mom’s camera that I wanted to scrapbook because I loved the photos so much (especially the one of my dad!) but didn’t want to bother with figuring out how to go back and insert them in my already done scrapbook pages… so I used the above templates to quickly get the pages done and add them in the back of my book. I think they turned out perfectly.

Do you ever get stuck with random photos at the end of the year? What do you end up doing with them?

Next, I have a couple of friends who scrapbook the 8.5×11 size (can’t figure out why!) and they have been begging me to make them some templates. I must be going crazy but I whipped up a couple of packages to help them get their scrapbooking done and have put them in my shop as well. Perhaps some of you are scrapbooking that size as well. These will help you avoid having to resize all the 12×12′s.

Geter-Done-preview-l

When I was making this packages I was obviously thinking about a 365 project since all the pages have 7 photos.

That’s it for now. I’m always working on new templates so I’ll keep you posted when I put new ones up. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Couponing

Hey, ya’ll. Just a quick note to say that I’m learning how to coupon. Have you tried it yet?

I’m drooling over this coupon binder for organizing all my coupons. My sister is having a give a way and I’m wishing she’d rig the drawing for me but she said I have to win fair and square.

Sheessh.

Why don’t you check it out too…

Template 66

Hey, everyone! I have another template ready to give away. I happen to like this one so I hope you do to. I’ve been seeing backgrounds like this all over the place but of course I had to make it a two pager. Can’t wait to see it printed out in my book. Super fun but yet so simple. Just the way I like it.

Download here.

Here are my pages. I had so much fun capturing this moment of Isaac jamming on his pretend drums. Don’t ask my why he used a pillow for one of them but I had no complaints -less noise the better, right?

I have some VERY exciting news coming up this week so all of you digi scrappers stay tuned!!

Halloween.

If I’m going to be completely honest with you, I will admit that Halloween is NOT my favorite holiday. I know, I know, what a party pooper I am! I just can’t love the creepiness of it all. I can’t embrace the dark, rotten celebration of dead things hanging by everyone’s front doors or little children pretending to be nightmarish things. Is it too much to ask that they take off their masks at my door so my toddler doesn’t scream and shake with real terror? Arggh.

My hate of the holiday may stem from the many nightmares I had as a kid. The nightmares weren’t necessarily from Halloween but from the horror films I watched as a 5th or 6th grader when I’d sneak over to my forbidden friend’s house because she was the cool kid of the moment. As a result, I battled that dark dream land way to long and have fought for years to remove those discussing images from my head.

Since, I have never been able to understand why there is such an accepted thrill in getting yourself scared on purpose or dressing up in those horrors. I avoid haunted houses like the plague and they will never earn one penny from me.

But of course, I do acquiesce the darling little witches, fairies and super heroes. I allow my kids to pick out their own Halloween costumes as long as I approve.

I will admit that we had a delightful little Halloween and now that you know that I am such a baby, I will share with you some photos of our little holiday.

My big sista came down from Idaho to trick or treat in our neighborhood because at her Idaho farmland house the neighbors are just too far apart to acquire a good enough stash of candy.

Oct 31,2010 028

When I look at this picture of her vikings and my geisha and batman, I have the burning question of what in the heck has she been feeding her oldest who is only 1 1/2 years older then Emma? He’s just towering over everyone. The other 4 are apparently eating the exact same things.

We had to battle the rain a little bit but turned out to be not that bad.

Oct 31,2010 004

The kids could hardly wait to get out and fill their bags. It was so much work getting everyone dressed and out the door. Chaos, I tell you. Isaac would have got barefoot if it wasn’t for Aunt Jessie snagging him and telling him to grab some shoes. We practically melted into the couch after the big kids left.

Oct 31,2010 005

Now the little ones were not so eager to get dress up.

Oct 31,2010 010

“Please take this ridiculous flower hat off of me,” says Leah.

Oct 31,2010 012

“Ah, there we go. I did it myself,” she proclaims with tear filled eyes.

Oct 31,2010 013

“Here, Aunt Jessie, you can where it,” she declares, anxious to get rid of the offending article.

Oct 31,2010 014

“Okay, sure, with exquisite pleasure!” says the complying aunt.

Oct 31,2010 018

Ha ha, revenge is mine!

Overall, great Halloween, but please remember to take down your ghosts and goblins quickly.
