Birthday Girl

My little munchkin is 2 today.

Sigh.

I spent some time laying on a blanket outside in the warm sunshine watching Leah run around and around in circles. She was going as fast as those rolly, naked legs could take her. She was saying “Watch, mommy. Fast!”

While I was there basking in the brief sunshine, my memories trickled back to exactly two years ago. It was a similar kind of day, warm enough to be out but perhaps a light jacket near by. I remember walking and walking and walking around the playground trying to figure out how to get this baby to come out. There happened to be a man working on some newly poured cement next to the playground. He must have been watching me walking waddling around in circles because he asked me when my baby was suppose to arrive.

Two weeks ago was my reply.

Little did I know that in just a few more hours I’d be pushing that baby out on my very own bedroom floor. Ah, what a memory. It’s a memory that makes my heart warm and a smile come to my face and maybe even giggle.

And now look at her. Sooo big. Where have these two years gone?

She has been such a dear girl. A joy to our family. She’s very loving and sweet. I do admit, though, that I have some fear about how her two year old behaviors are going to turn out. She’s had a bit of a nasty, grouchy spell with whining and hitting. Yikes. Well, it’s exciting to be two anyway.
